Ags Connelly

Friday 13th December, 7pm

Ags Connelly is a traditional country singer-songwriter, who has built a reputation as an inspired songwriter. He is a constant presence on the touring circuit and has headlined shows both solo and with his band across the UK, Europe and the US.

Ags’ influences come essentially from the likes of David Allan Coe, Johnny Paycheck and Dale Watson. However, he also takes influences from the likes of Guy Clark, Loudon Wainwright III and Chris Knight.

Ags’ second album, ‘Nothin’ Unexpected’, was released in February 2017. Its release led Country Music People magazine to declare him “the best singer-songwriter in the country field that this country has ever turned out” and John Godfrey from The Troubador Show to label it “the best country album to come out of the UK from the best ever UK country artist”.

Friday 1st November, 7pm

We have another wonderful evening of live music lined up, this time we welcome singer songwriter Martha L. Healy to The Bookshop in East Grinstead.

Martha's new album, "Keep the Flame Alight" was written mostly in Nashville in the Autumn/Winter of 2016 and she returned there to record in Oct 2017. The album was released in October 2018 at Glasgow Americana Festival. It entered the ITunes Country charts at no. 11 and has received praise for its lyrical and melodic content.

Martha is a constant live performer and has played the BlueBird Cafe, Nashville Palace, Douglas Corner on her regular state-side trips. Back home in Scotland, she often performs as a duo with fellow Scottish Americana singer-songwriter, Al Shields. Recent live festival performances have included C2C, Glasgow Americana Festival, Eden Festival, Southern Fried Festival (Perth), HebCelt (Isle of Lewis), Red Rooster (Suffolk), Arisaig Americana (Scottish Highlands).

In 2019, Martha has also played at Celtic Connections in her hometown of Glasgow, supporting Jill Jackson, and she showcased officially at AMA UK's AmericanaFest in London. She embarks on her first Irish tour in August 2019
