About the event

Tracy Chevalier is an American British novelist, best known for her second novel 'The Girl with the Pearl Earring'. Tracy has won multiple awards and is one of today's most loved authors - whose books always make the Bestseller lists. Â We are thrilled and honoured that she is coming to launch our new series of Literary Lunches with her new novel 'The Glassmaker'. Â Â
'The Glassmaker' tells the story of the Venetian glassmakers. In particular, Orsola Rosso who flouts convention to work, in secret, to make the beautiful Venetian glass beads which adorn the necks of empresses and courtesans. Â We are particularly grateful to local Arts & Crafts Design House, The Design Gallery (www.thedesigngallery.com) who are bringing a very special collection of glass beads to share with attendees.Â
Tracy Chevalier is a master of her own craft, and The Glassmaker is vivid, inventive, spellbinding: a virtuoso portrait of a woman, a family and a city that are as everlasting as their glass.
'A triumph… a brilliant idea carried out with confidence and brio and a deep love of an extraordinary city. The ingenuity of the time-skipping is beyond admiration' PHILIP PULLMAN
'Spellbinding…. Chevalier at her fabulous best. A rich, vivid and gently enchanting novel' ELIF SHAFAK
'Meticulously researched and evoking the beauty of the Venice lagoon, the story challenges and transports the reader through time and place' PHILIPPA GREGORY
