Fifty years ago Fawlty Towers hit British TV screens for the first time, becoming an instant classic. Join us to hear John Cleese recounting some of his favourite stories from behind the scenes. We are delighted to announce a second sitting at 12.30pm.

About the event

First broadcast fifty years ago in 1975 Fawlty Towers won three BAFTAs and, despite only having 12 episodes, it continues to be voted one of the best sit-coms of all time.


The show featured Cleese as the irascible hotel manager Basil Fawlty, Prunella Scales as his sybaritic wife Sybil, Andrew Sachs as the hapless waiter Manuel, and Booth as Polly, an efficient waitress and art student.


Cleese's new book, 'Fawlts and All' explores the how and why of creating classic comedy. There is a laugh on every page, and a dose of nostalgia for vintage TV fans, plus gorgeous, specially commissioned illustrations and archival imagery. A copy is included in the ticket price for our event. It will cheer the winter gloom and/or make a fabulous Christmas present.
